Stop Having a Nice Day: It’s Time to Aim Higher

Stop telling me to have a nice day! I mean it. I’m through with nice, I mean, nice is nice, but I want more. Are you with me?

What if I told you there is something you can do right now that could possibly get you unstuck and make today not just a nice day but an absolutely astonishing day? You’d at least try it, right? Well, stick with me because today, I’m going to share one simple but powerful mindset shift that just might super-charge your day and take it from nice to astonishing.

It’s no secret. We all seem to have a default setting to resist anything that might make a positive change in our lives. We just do!

It seems like the things we want the most, we sabotage the most.

The good news is that to get through this built-in resistance you don’t have to do something big. You just need to start doing something new. And are you ready for this? Maybe that something new is simply to give yourself permission.

Yeah. So, starting today, from this moment forward, my friend, it’s time to give yourself permission.

Permission to have more, permission to do more, permission to be more, and here’s the big one, give yourself permission to take imperfect action.

Okay, let’s make it real.

Find a place you can have a heart-to-heart conversation with yourself. Grab a mirror or turn on your phone’s camera and put it in selfie mode. That works, too.

Now, look deep into those beautiful eyes of yours and say:

“Today, and from this moment forward, I give you permission to have more, I give you permission to do more and I give you permission to be more. And not only that, I give you permission to take imperfect action.”

Excellent! Feel that tremendous rush of energy? Good!

  • Permission to have more because you’ve been holding back. You’ve been shrinking to fit.
  • Permission to do more because face it, you’ve been hiding from opportunities to move forward in your life.
  • Permission to be more because you’ve been playing it safe and saying “no” to the very things that might stretch you, deepen your relationships, or be just plain fun.
  • And finally, Permission to take imperfect action because — and this is key — because there’s no time like now, and you can always course-correct later.

Now, go kick some ass, and have an absolutely astonishing day.
